Overview
This is a proposal to switch Pods from a formal membership model to a proposal and project participation-based model as outlined in Pod Structure & Dynamics.
Under this new model, each pod will have a lead, and active members in that pod will be fluid based on if they are currently participating in proposals or projects related to that pod.
Motivation & Rationale
This proposal seeks to update/clarify our current Pod structure as follows:
- We believe that the formal membership model is somewhat rigid and can make Pods feel less inviting to non official members. We propose that removing formal Pod membership, while still recognizing community involvement, will empower the Kift community as a whole to participate in any areas to which they feel called.
- We recognize that, in order to best facilitate community participation in this new model, the work being done in pods must be as transparent and accessible as possible. We propose categorizing all Pod work into proposals and projects (KIPs), and making the details of that work widely available via appropriate channels (e.g. the Proposals & Projects (KIP) Database, Meeting Minutes in Notion, discussion in Discord, etc).
- As Kift grows and develops into a fully functioning DAO, it will require a diverse set of knowledge and skills to scale effectively. By allowing anyone to participate and be recognized for work in areas that they feel motivated, Kift will organically identify and develop a strong foundation of community members who can collectively execute on a wide range of projects and initiatives.
- Overall, we believe this proposal serves a larger goal of creating a culture of inclusion, community co-creation and ownership by encouraging, celebrating, and rewarding community participation.
Responsible Parties & Resources
KIP Authors: @Ola Kalejaye , @Jeff Berezny @Cam Lindsay will be responsible for driving forward the implementation of KIP-2 along with Pod Leads: @Mo Sakrani (G&L/RE), @Noami (E&I), @Lauren Nicholl (IRL), @Sante Kotturi (Tech), @Cam Lindsay (DC).
Steps to Implement
- Community reviews, refines, and votes on the structure outlined here and in Pod Structure & Dynamics.
- Upon a favorable vote, the transition to the new Pod structure will begin, with a focus on translating all applicable Pod work into KIPs and adding to Proposals & Projects (KIP) Database.
- Basic structure for identification of who is working on which KIP will be put in place in the KIP Database and in Discord.
