Kift DAO is launching its community-led governance through a formal proposal process derived from learning through early test proposals, inspiration from retrospective conversations, and the process implemented and proven out over time by Ethereum’s EIP system.
This guide is an overview of the proposal process. It’s a living document that will evolve and improve with the community’s input.
Participating in idea submission, review, commentary, proposal refinement, and voting is limited to Kift DAO members. Holding a Kiftable NFT is the only requirement for membership in the DAO.
Proposal Categories
There are several categories a KIP (Kift Improvement Proposal) can fall under, including, but not limited to:
- Governance / Policy: proposals for creating, implementing, or making change to the DAO’s legal or working structures (pods), a process, or a policy.
- Examples include incorporating as a co-op or DAO LLC, processes related to pod efficacy, and making changes to this proposal process.
- IRL Experience: proposals that impact the IRL experience across multiple Kift sites or a significant % of the membership.
- Examples include policies around pets, and projects focused on food organizing principals. Bad examples could be the location of trash bins (self-organizing at each site is probably better).
- Capital Project: proposals that seek funds, typically over $1,000, to execute a physical project that creates an asset for the community.
- Examples include property purchases, making improvements to an owned property, building a resource for the community (e.g., a mobile kitchen), and generally anything that requires a large one-time expense.
- Community and Brand Growth: proposals that aim to explicitly grow the community and/or our presence, and either utilize the brand in an official way or request funds for production.
- Examples include organizing ticketed events/festivals/caravans with production costs, digital and/or IRL collaborations and partnerships that require legal/binding commitments.
- Public Good: proposals that aim to further the community’s values of equity and inclusion.
- Examples include making philanthropic contributions, organizing volunteering efforts, hosting local communities in our homes, and other initiatives that ensure adherence to our values.
- Contributor Identification: proposals that are accessory to KIPs in the above categories, typically focused on the recruiting/onboarding/directing of human resources to help execute a proposal that lacks sufficient personnel resources due to improper scoping or abandonment.
- De minimis: proposals in any category that seek a small amount of money (i.e., < $1,000) for DAO operational tooling, site scouting, procurement of goods for an event, etc.
- De minimis KIPs will be fast-tracked (see Proposal Phases below).
